View Composer error recomposing desktops after upgrading from View 5.0 to 5.3

We just upgraded from View 5.0 to 5.3. At the same time we also upgraded from vSphere 5.0 to 5.5. We updated our golden images with the new VM tools, upgraded from hardware version 8 to version 10,  and upgraded the View Agent. We then recomposed the persistent desktops, and when we did so, we got the following error on all of the desktops:

View Composer Fault: Unexpected VC fault from View

Composer (Unknown) - Unknown - <fault xsi:type="DeltaDiskFormatNotSupported"

xmlns="urn:internalvim25" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">

    <deltaDiskFormat>seSparseFormat</deltaDiskFormat>

  </fault> for VM VDI-W7-022

We noticed that when we looked at the desktops in vCenter, it appeared that the desktop no longer had an OS as it was sitting at what looked like a PXE screen. Our floating desktops recomposed fine, and when we deleted the persistent desktops that had errors and let it create fresh ones, that worked fine too. Recomposing the freshly-created desktops also worked fine. We can't find much information on this error, and we're wondering if anyone else has seen it and knows what the problem is. We are thinking of deleting the desktops and starting fresh, but we're looking for some information on this if anyone has any.

Thanks!
