View Client corrupts input from scanner/keyboard wedge

I am running View 5.3.1 sessions using the view client on a Windows Embedded 2009 platform (XP)  -  LXT THOR rugged tablet computers and using a bluetooth-connected Intermec SR61b Barcode scanner.  These have been running properly for nearly a year, and suddenly 3 of the 6 devices are coming up with an odd error.   When using the scanner and running notepad or another text-accepting application on the tablet, the scanner performs normally, so I can scan a barcode of 1234567890 and get the appropriate characters entered into notepad, etc.  This had been working fine with the View client when running a VM on the tablet until very recently.

At this point, when I scan with the barcode scanner, it works normally on the tablet, but in the VDI session is shows a different set of characters as a response, though these characters are 100% consistent.   A scan of "101" returns "nbn" consistently; "123" returns "nm,"   It appears as if the keyboard map has somehow changed, though typing the characters on the keyboard returns the appropriate character per key.

I have tried multiple virtual machines,  checked and upgraded the VMWare tools on those VDI sessions, moved to the most current 32 bit (XP) View client; removed the client and scrubbed the registry of all VMWare information on the XP systems and reinstalled the view client, and tested with different data and formats in the barcode, all with quite consistent results.  So far I am at a complete loss as to why the keyboard characters as decoded and entered to the KB buffer show correctly until the View client session is established.
