We are about to pilot a View enviroment starting off with about 10 clients and moving up to about 100 by the end of the year. Currently on our desktops, we run SCCM 2007 to manage and patch all of our updates: Windows, AV, 3rd party. Reading through the documentation I have some questions about updating/recomposing a linked clone pool.
I know you shutdown the Gold Image (GI) and then take the snapshot, but do you keep that powered off until you need to update? Can you just keep it running? Our SCCM patches are applied thoughout the week so it was my thought that you just let the GI run then do a recompose monthly or as needed.
If you delete the snapshot that the linked clone pool is pointed to, does that break the link in such a way that the pool stops functioning? If so, do you just collect a bunch of snapshots or peridocally clear them out and do another recopose?
I appreciate the help.
