Horizon Client Slow to Turn Over to CS Login Prompt on External Connections

Running the Horizon Client v3.5.2 x64 on Windows 10. Noticing a significant delay just turning over the login prompt for external connections and was wondering if anyone has any insight as to what is happening during that process that could result in this delay. Specifically what we are experiencing is the following:

1) Double-click the desktop shortcut for the client.

2) Double-click on a connection server target

3) The "connecting" hourglass spins briefly, then pauses, then continues spinning. Does this 3-4 times for about 30-45 seconds.

4) Users are then displayed the Security Server login prompt.

Once authenticated, users can consume virtual desktops externally without any additional issues or unreasonable delays.

Our setup is as follows:

1) Three internal-facing Connection Servers under a HWLB, dedicated for internal desktop consumption.

2) Three external-facing Connection servers + three Security Servers in a DMZ under a HWLB, dedicated for exernal desktop consumption.

3) VIP(s) on HWLB are NAT'd through the firewall. All components are otherwise assigned private IPs,

I don't have the same experience on mobile devices connecting over 3G/4G; these deliver a login prompt much quicker. I also don't have this problem on our internal clients connecting to our dedicated internal-facing CS pool.

What's even stranger to me is this: if I create an entry on my local hosts file to associate the external FQDN with the NAT'd address (the exact same one set up in DNS), then I am delivered the login prompt almost immediately. It would therefore appear as if DNS resolution is playing into the delay in some way, but I can't figure out how.
