View and Tiff files

I've deployed a proof of concept View 5 enviroment running on ESXi 5.0 using HP Blades and EMC Storage tiering between fibre and SSD. Functionally everything works succssfully, but within our core application we use tiff files to generate maps and the performance of the maps is almost unusable.

The users scroll around the maps and zoom in and out and on a thick client this is almost instant, but within a view session the maps are sluggish and at times you sometimes wonder whether your mouse movements and clicks have actually been acknowledged.

The VM's are Windows 7 64bit with 8GB ram, 2 vitrual cores and 128mb of video memory each. This compares to a Pentium D thick client running XP with 2GB ram.

I've tested opening the tiffs outside the app and scrolling and zooming is still poor.

We can watch video and use google maps without any issues.

Has anyone had any experince of using tiffs within a vdi enviroment? Currently HP are looking at whether we need to use hardware graphics acceleration to improve performance.
