VSA - computing disk digest more than once?

Is there a reason View needs to compute the disk digest more than once when you deploy linked clones to a pool with multiple hosts? Whenever I deploy an image it appears that View computes the digest once for each host, vs just computing the digest once (a time-consuming process) and then copying it to the hosts that need it. I'm using local storage for the replicas - might that be causing it?
